I like the concept of your poster, with the whole product endorsement thing going on. i'm not a fan of fifa but i do like coca cola, nice choice for a product to use. i also like that it tells us exactly what it's about: soccer.
as for what i don't like about the poster, it does have something to do with the background. it just looks too cartoonish for promoting a real-life sporting event. it also appears that you traced the soccer player using the image trace feature in illustrator, i'm not sure if that was your intent, but the player itself doesn't mesh well with the background. that goes for the soccer ball as well, it's surrounded by a green square border and it looks as though that the ball was placed in front of the player's foot. i'm not trying to bash you or anything, maybe you just didn't know how to make the player and ball blend together, but i saw what i saw.
I think what you were aiming for was good but the finished product turned out to be a different. It just seems too cartoony for a professional athlete's sponsor poster, not to mention he's missing a foot haha
I would make the clouds white instead of black. Crop the player a little better so we can see the other leg behind the ball. Maybe make the stands a little bigger so we know those are people. I like the idea of this one since I am a big soccer fan. There is a lot of great detail throughout the poster to keep the audience looking.
I like your idea for a product endorsement for an professional athlete. Maybe make the goal and stands a bit bigger to be proportionate with the size of the player. Also I like how you tried to make the players left foot be behind the soccer ball. The only thing I would try is to make it so the the player's leg comes down a bit more and is rounded at the end instead of cutting it off with a straight line.
I like the fact that the colors are bright, but it looks really child like to me. The poster does need some work, but the concept is nice. I would replace the background with a real field to make it seem like the images blend better.
I think the idea is neat, having a real life person on a cartoon background. But the background does need some work. Also the soccer player needs to be fully in tact lol (part of his arm and his foot. lol)
I like the bright colors because it helps you focus on the athlete but you can see spots where you cut out parts of his body. Didn't really know it was a Coca Cola advertisement until I looked at the small circles and the color. Try to bring focus there.
I like how you were trying to show that drinking coke can be fun by making it look cartooning, but I think you could of went with it a different. Maybe not use a real person, but maybe a cartoon playing soccer. The person doesn't blend well with the background especially the soccer ball it doesn't look like he's kicking it at all. The intention was good and maybe the real soccer player could of work, but really it just needs to be touched up a bit.
It's a good concept, I think the cartoon is an interesting idea. I think what could have been done better was the vectoring of the athlete and that the soccer ball to not have the green box around it. I like what you were aiming for.
The poster has a very graphic, playful mood because of the bright colors and strong shapes that you drew with Illustrator. I think the color is working well-there are some saturated pastels in the environment which set off the reds of the coke emblems and the reds and blues of the soccer uniform. There is a deep sense of space because of the small scale of the goal and the stadium of a few players- this adds to a comical, playful tone-and seems exaggerated. If this sense of exaggeration continues through the piece I think it can work. I see more hints at the playfulness with the black clouds and the blades of grass in the field. I would like to see this playfulness toned up a little more, even. It might be nice to see more people in the stadium-maybe still at this distance to create a deep sense of space and maintain the sense of a crowd-not individual people, but a stadium that fills the back space more. This would also help manage the compositional space of the poster and create more movement throughout. Some other things to improve-the soccer players leg is strangely cut off at the foot-I would like to see you handle this better by compositing it with another player’s foot to make it look more life like. I think you could drag the soccer player down a little bit lower on the page, and then leave more room for the coke logo. I think the sun around it is interesting and it works. I think the Coke emblem also needs to be larger, as well as the text around it. The text around it definitely should be secondary to the logo, but it still needs to be more legible, as it seems like a caption for the poster, linking the image with the logo. Larger font here, more space between letters. Rearranging those things might lead to you bringing the white square on the bottom left down into the corner further. I think it is suitable here for this to be small, and the text next to it to be small too, like a footnote.
I really like this poster. The entire design oozes fun. The cut off foot is distracting though. And as a minor critique the clouds are not white, so when you click on the image the clouds are see thru. Still a great poster.
I like the simplicity. The left ankle of the player is cut off before it disappears behind the soccer ball. The red text at the bottom could be a little bigger and easier to read. I like the hand-drawn lines as the grass.
I like the idea of the Pepsi logo in the middle of the sun, my eyes were drawn right to it. I believe that if you wanted the cartoony look, you should've kept with the theme by using a cartoon soccer player.
I really like the design to this, live action in a cartoon setting. It's very well done, but the thing that is a little distracting to me is that maybe the cropping on the soccer player doesn't look very smooth, than and part of his leg is gone. But other than that, I really like this.

you did a good job with this poster nonetheless

ReplyDeleteAnother thing that I would do is to put a back shadow on the player, to give the poster more depth.

ReplyDeleteGood idea. Nice effort. Imperfection has some kind of appealing. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the idea you were going for. It seems nice but i don't know if it was suppose to be surreal or cartoonish. but nice job.
